Blog 1

My name is Mei Du, and I come from Nanjing, China. This is my sixth year in Canada, where I am currently a senior majoring in art history. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a strong passion for reading, media, and news research. I believe that my major will provide substantial benefits for my future development, both personally and professionally. My interest in media and education is particularly noteworthy. I am fascinated by how media can be leveraged to enhance educational experiences and disseminate information more effectively. Last summer, I had the opportunity to work part-time at a newspaper office. This experience was pivotal, as it ignited my interest in news, digital media, and various related fields. I gained hands-on experience in journalism and digital content creation, which further fueled my enthusiasm for these areas. I am excited about the potential to combine my interests in media and education. I see a tremendous opportunity to explore how digital tools and platforms can transform traditional educational methods and make learning more accessible and engaging. Through this course, I aim to deepen my understanding of these intersections and acquire more practical skills that will be beneficial in my future career.

My journey with open and distributed learning began in primary school when I first encountered extracurricular tutoring software to help me learn English. As technology advances, the applications of open and distributed teaching have become more diverse, including various forms of written document sharing, reading software, and AI-assisted learning tools.

What excites me most about open and distributed learning is the ability to experience different software and learn anytime, anywhere, without restrictions. For example, using spare moments to read and interact with different applications to expand our knowledge significantly enhances the flexibility and accessibility of learning.

In my daily studies, I frequently use various software for searching materials, taking notes, and transferring files. Some of my go-to tools include Google Docs, GoodNotes, and Canvas. These digital tools save time and improve learning efficiency. Additionally, they enhance communication ease. For instance, during the EDCI335 course last year, I created animations and videos as digital learning tools, which proved very meaningful.

I believe that in this course, I will leverage digital tools to enhance my blog sharing and learning experiences. These tools will help me better grasp professional knowledge and improve my overall learning outcomes. By using digital resources effectively, I can participate more actively in discussions, collaborate on projects, and contribute to the learning community.
